Why Crashes Involving Passenger Cars and Large Trucks Can Be Severe
Collisions between passenger vehicles and large trucks often result in serious outcomes because of the significant size and weight differences. Box trucks and other commercial vehicles are much heavier than standard cars, which can increase the force involved during impact.
Stopping distance is another factor. Large trucks require more space and time to slow down compared to smaller vehicles. Sudden traffic changes or unexpected maneuvers can make it difficult for both drivers to avoid a collision.
Visibility can also affect these crashes. Truck drivers operate vehicles with larger blind spots along the sides and rear. Vehicles traveling within those areas may not be easily seen from the truck’s cab.
Road speed and traffic conditions may further influence the severity of a crash. When large trucks and passenger vehicles collide at highway speeds, the damage and injuries can be much greater.
