Why Motorcycle Intersections Can Be Especially Dangerous
Intersections often present higher risks for motorcycle riders compared to other roadway areas. These locations require vehicles to cross traffic lanes, merge, or make turns, which can place motorcycles in the path of other vehicles.
Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger cars, especially when approaching from different directions at intersections. Drivers turning left or crossing traffic may have limited time to notice an approaching motorcycle. Even brief misjudgments of speed or distance can lead to serious collisions.
Road design, traffic signals, and driver attention can also influence how safely vehicles move through intersections. Riders often rely on protective gear and defensive riding techniques to reduce risk. Maintaining safe speeds and improving visibility can help reduce the chances of crashes in these areas.
