Why Pedestrian Crashes on Interstates Are Especially Dangerous
Pedestrian crashes on high-speed roadways like interstates often result in fatal outcomes due to limited reaction time and high vehicle speeds. Drivers may have little opportunity to avoid a person in the roadway, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions.
When multiple vehicles are involved, the risk of severe injury increases because each impact adds force to an already dangerous situation. Interstates are not designed for pedestrian traffic, which makes crossing or walking along them extremely hazardous.
Safety experts emphasize that staying off highways and using designated crossings can greatly reduce the risk of life-threatening collisions.
