Brooklyn, IA (July 12, 2026) – A man succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a semi-tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 near mile marker 198 outside Brooklyn early on Friday morning, July 10.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing a person standing near the fog line along the eastbound lanes. The semi driver told officials he believed the truck had struck something in the roadway. Deputies later found an adult man in a ditch who had been hit by the semi and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary review indicated the man walked into the roadway before the collision. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, and further details will be released as officials provide updates.
