Pensacola, FL (January 21, 2026) – An e-bike rider was injured after being struck by a car at 14th Ave and Gregory St in Pensacola. The crash happened just after midnight on February 21 near the Chappie James Memorial Bridge.
According to reports, the e-bike rider was traveling south on 14th Ave and approached the intersection at Gregory St. Investigators say the rider did not stop at the stop sign before entering the intersection and was hit by a car.
The driver remained at the scene following the collision. The e-bike rider was taken to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert and was later reported to be in stable condition.
During the response, traffic coming off the bridge was diverted to Bayfront Pkwy. Gregory St reopened within about an hour after the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. We are thinking of the injured rider as they recover.
Safety Concerns at Stop-Controlled Intersections
Intersections with stop signs rely on drivers and riders to slow down and check for cross traffic before proceeding. When a vehicle or bike fails to stop fully, the risk of a crash rises sharply. Even at moderate speeds, side-impact collisions can cause serious injuries.
E-bikes share many of the same risks as traditional bicycles. Riders are exposed and have limited protection in a collision. Helmets and reflective gear can help reduce injury severity, but they do not prevent crashes caused by right-of-way violations.
Areas near bridges and major corridors often see steady traffic flow. Clear visibility, proper signaling, and full stops at posted signs all help lower the chance of intersection accidents in busy parts of Pensacola.
