Why Teen Occupants Can Be Especially Vulnerable in Traffic Crashes
Teen passengers face an increased risk of injury in crashes, particularly when multiple young occupants are traveling together in one car. The force of an impact may affect several passengers at once, especially in smaller vehicles.
Younger passengers may also be seated in different areas of the vehicle, including rear seats, where injuries can occur from sudden stops or side impacts. The severity of injuries often depends on vehicle speed, the angle of the collision, and whether seat belts are being used.
When several passengers are injured in the same crash, emergency crews may quickly assess and transport patients to hospitals for further medical evaluation and treatment.
