What Can Happen When Cargo Comes Loose From a Trailer?
Items carried on trailers can create serious hazards if they become detached while a vehicle is moving. A loose object can enter nearby traffic and strike another vehicle. The resulting impact may cause a driver to lose control.
ATVs and other recreational vehicles can be heavy and difficult to secure. Proper tie-downs and equipment help keep cargo in place during travel. Drivers towing trailers should also check that loads remain secure throughout a trip.
A crash involving loose cargo can affect several vehicles and travel lanes. Drivers approaching unexpected debris should slow down when safe and avoid sudden steering movements. Maintaining space from other vehicles can also provide more time to react.
