Philadelphia, PA (January 30, 2026) – A deadly multi-vehicle accident on Roosevelt Blvd near the Broad St exit left one man dead and another critically injured in the early morning hours of January 30, shutting down both sides of the roadway for several hours.
According to Philadelphia police, the chain of events began around 3:30 a.m. when a 55-year-old man and a 31-year-old man were involved in a crash that disabled their vehicles in the northbound lanes. As other vehicles began striking the disabled cars, both men attempted to escape danger by jumping over the concrete median into southbound traffic.
Tragically, both were struck by a silver Toyota driven by a 21-year-old male. The 55-year-old was found unresponsive in the southbound lanes and pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released. The 31-year-old suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Einstein Medical Center, where he remains in extremely critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota stayed on-site and is fully cooperating with investigators, who are working to understand the sequence of impacts and what led to the initial crash.
Roosevelt Blvd was shut down in both directions between Broad St and 9th St for nearly seven hours and reopened around 10:30 a.m. Authorities continue to investigate all contributing factors in this fatal incident.
