Why Left-Turn Crashes Often Occur at Busy Intersections
Left-turn crashes are among the most common types of intersection accidents. These incidents often occur when a driver turning left must judge the speed and distance of oncoming vehicles while also monitoring traffic signals and nearby traffic.
Even a small miscalculation can lead to a serious collision. Vehicles traveling straight typically move at higher speeds, which can increase the force of impact when a turning vehicle crosses their path.
Road design and traffic flow can also affect the occurrence of these crashes. Intersections near highways or major routes often see heavier traffic and faster-moving vehicles. Clear visibility, proper timing of turns, and awareness of approaching traffic are factors that can influence whether a turn is completed safely.
