San Mateo County, CA (June 16, 2026) – A San Francisco police motorcycle officer was injured Monday morning following a collision with a big rig near San Francisco International Airport.

According to the San Francisco Police Officers Association, the crash occurred on a roadway near SFO when a big rig truck allegedly pulled in front of the motorcycle officer, leading to the collision.

Officials said the officer suffered a sprained ankle and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. The officer was later released from the hospital.

The driver of the big rig was cited at the scene, according to union representatives. Additional details regarding the circumstances of the collision were not immediately released.

San Francisco Police Officers Association President Louis Wong stated that while the officer’s injuries were not serious, the incident serves as a reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face while performing their duties on area roadways.

The crash remains under review. We hope the injured officer makes a full and speedy recovery.

Why Collisions Involving Motor Officers Can Be Particularly Dangerous?

Police motorcycle officers spend much of their time operating in active traffic environments while responding to calls, conducting patrols, and assisting with traffic enforcement. Because motorcycles provide less protection than enclosed vehicles, officers can be vulnerable to injury even in relatively low-speed collisions.

Investigators reviewing crashes involving motorcycles and commercial vehicles examine lane positions, visibility, vehicle movements, and right-of-way issues. Physical evidence, witness statements, and vehicle damage can help determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision.

Commercial truck crashes frequently receive additional scrutiny because of the size and weight differences between trucks and motorcycles. Understanding how these incidents occur can help authorities identify contributing factors and promote roadway safety for all motorists.
