We send our best wishes to the injured person as they receive medical care.
Why Do Turning Vehicles Frequently Strike Pedestrians in Crosswalks?
Intersections are common locations for pedestrian accidents, especially when vehicles are making turns. Drivers often focus on oncoming traffic while preparing to turn, which can reduce their awareness of people crossing in front of them.
Marked crosswalks are designed to give pedestrians a safe path across busy streets. However, visibility challenges, early morning light conditions, and traffic flow can affect reaction time. Even at moderate speeds, a turning vehicle can cause serious injury to a person on foot.
Failure to yield is one of the most cited factors in vehicle-versus-pedestrian crashes. Slowing down before turning and checking both directions for foot traffic can help reduce these types of incidents.
