Raymond, ME (March 31, 2026) – A 20-year-old man was killed on Monday evening following a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Webbs Mills Road (Route 85) and Tarkiln Hill Road in Raymond.
The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 PM on March 30. Officials said Seth Hodgkins, 20, of Greenwood, was traveling north on Route 85 on a motorcycle when he collided with a southbound 2012 Toyota RAV4 attempting a left turn onto Tarkiln Hill Road. After the initial impact, Hodgkins was ejected from the motorcycle and struck by a 2015 GMC Terrain traveling behind the RAV4.
Hodgkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and preliminary reports indicate alcohol was not a factor. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash with assistance from the Windham Police Department’s crash reconstruction team.
Hodgkins served as an EMT with the Buckfield Fire Rescue Department. Department leadership shared a tribute expressing deep sorrow for the loss of a dedicated coworker and community servant.
Our condolences go out to Seth Hodgkins’ family and friends during this difficult time.
Motorcycle Crashes and Intersection Safety
Motorcycle crashes at intersections are particularly dangerous due to the limited protection riders have and the high risk of being struck by multiple vehicles. Sudden turning vehicles, misjudged gaps, and high speeds can quickly lead to collisions.
Even when helmets are worn, riders remain vulnerable to severe injuries or fatalities from impact and ejection. Multi-vehicle involvement further increases the danger, as secondary collisions can occur moments after the initial crash. Emergency response and quick medical attention are critical in these situations, though outcomes can still be fatal due to the force and nature of motorcycle accidents.
