Why Pedestrian Crashes Involving Large Trucks Can Be Severe
Pedestrian accidents involving semi-trucks often lead to serious or fatal injuries because of the size and weight of commercial vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can cause severe harm to a person on foot.
Urban roadways with multiple lanes and busy traffic patterns may increase risks for pedestrians and drivers alike. Visibility can also become an issue near intersections, turning lanes, or areas with stopped traffic. Large trucks have wider blind spots than passenger vehicles, which may make it harder to see nearby pedestrians in certain situations.
After a pedestrian crash, investigators commonly review roadway conditions, vehicle positioning, traffic signals, and witness statements. Surveillance footage and vehicle data may also help clarify how the collision occurred and whether either party had time to react before impact.
