How Do Multi-Vehicle Crashes Develop at Intersections?
Multi-vehicle crashes at intersections often begin with a single point of impact that sets off a chain reaction. When one vehicle is hit, it may be pushed into another lane or path, increasing the likelihood of additional collisions.
Turning movements can add complexity, especially when drivers must judge the speed and distance of oncoming traffic. Rear-end impacts during a turn can quickly change the direction of a vehicle, placing others at risk.
Motorcycles are especially vulnerable in these situations due to their smaller size and limited protection. Visibility, timing, and roadway position all influence how these crashes unfold and how severe they become.
