Head-on Highway Crashes and the Risk of Entrapment
Head-on crashes often cause severe damage because both vehicles absorb force at the front. This type of impact can push parts of the vehicle inward, leaving drivers or passengers unable to get out on their own. Even at moderate speeds, the force can cause serious harm.
Entrapment can happen when doors jam, the dashboard shifts, or the frame bends after impact. In those cases, rescue crews may need specialized tools to safely open the vehicle and reach the people inside. This process is done carefully to avoid worsening injuries.
Highway crashes can also pose additional danger because traffic may continue to move near the scene. Quick lane control and safe working space help protect both injured people and emergency crews during the response.
