Safety Concerns in E-Scooter and Vehicle Collisions
E-scooter riders face a high risk of injury during crashes with larger vehicles. Unlike people inside trucks or cars, riders have little protection from the force of impact. Head, chest, and leg injuries can become life-threatening in severe collisions.
City streets can pose additional risks for scooter riders because traffic, parked cars, driveways, and turns may converge in a small area. Pickup trucks also sit higher than many smaller vehicles, which can affect the point of impact during a crash.
Visibility is another major factor in scooter-related crashes. Riders can be harder to see in traffic, especially near intersections or busy curbside areas. Road design, traffic flow, and vehicle movement can all affect how these collisions happen.
