Why Speed Can Affect the Severity of Two-Vehicle Crashes
Speed can affect the force generated during a crash. When vehicles collide, a higher speed may reduce reaction time and increase damage. It can also make injuries to drivers and passengers more severe.
Two-vehicle crashes on local roads may involve curves, driveways, changing traffic speeds, and limited shoulder space. These roadway features can affect how quickly a driver sees a hazard or responds to another vehicle. Morning travel can also bring steady traffic as people head to work or school.
After a fatal crash, scene details can help explain what happened. Vehicle damage, road markings, final stopping points, and witness accounts may provide useful context. Medical findings can also help show the full impact of the collision.
