Why Head-On Crashes on Two-Lane Highways Are Often Severe
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions. On two-lane highways like GA-1, opposing traffic often travels at similar speeds in proximity, separated only by a painted center line.
When a vehicle crosses into oncoming lanes, drivers may have little time to react. Even a brief moment of distraction, fatigue, or loss of control can lead to a devastating impact. The combined force of two vehicles traveling toward each other significantly increases the risk of fatal injuries.
Safety officials encourage drivers to remain alert, avoid distractions, and stay centered in their lane, especially during early morning hours. Extra caution on rural highways can help reduce the likelihood of serious head-on crashes.
