How Rear-End Crashes Involving Semi Trucks Can Become Severe
Crashes involving large trucks often lead to serious outcomes due to the size and weight difference between vehicles. When a smaller car strikes the back of a semi truck, the front of the car can absorb most of the impact force, increasing the risk of severe damage.
Highway speeds also contribute to the severity of these crashes. At higher speeds, drivers have less time to react to slowing or stopped traffic ahead. Limited visibility at night or early morning hours can make it harder to judge distance.
Vehicle stability is another factor. Sudden impact or loss of control can cause a car to overturn, especially if it veers off the roadway or hits uneven surfaces. These conditions can quickly turn a crash into a life-threatening event.
