Salinas, CA (January 2, 2026) – Emergency crews responded to a train-versus-bicyclist collision near Abbott St in Salinas on New Year’s Day, after a conductor reported striking someone near the tracks, according to dispatch audio.
The incident occurred around 6:17 p.m. near the railroad tracks behind Abbott St, close to Harkins Rd and Harris Rd. Union Pacific notified emergency services after the train conductor indicated they may have hit a person riding a bicycle in the area.
Salinas Fire personnel and medical units, including Medic 52 and Engine 3, were dispatched Code 3 to the scene. Police were also sent to assist with the response and investigate the report.
