San Antonio, TX (March 18, 2026) – A 12-year-old boy lost his life following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening that authorities believe may have involved street racing on the city’s Northwest Side.
The collision occurred just after 6:30 p.m. along Culebra Road near North Elmendorf Street in San Antonio, Texas. According to police, witnesses reported seeing two vehicles, a sedan and a black pickup truck, racing prior to the crash. Investigators say the sedan, driven by a 20-year-old, lost control, spun into oncoming traffic, and collided with another vehicle.
A 12-year-old boy who was a passenger in the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan was transported to a local hospital with injuries and could face charges related to racing on a highway resulting in death.
A 66-year-old woman in the second vehicle was also taken to a hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been publicly released. Authorities said the driver of the pickup truck involved in the suspected racing left the scene before officers arrived. The crash remains under active investigation as officials work to locate the second driver and determine all contributing factors.
We extend our condolences to the family of the young victim and wish those injured a full recovery.
How Does Street Racing Increase the Risk of Fatal Crashes?
Street racing on roads like Culebra Road in San Antonio, Texas, significantly increases the risk of severe and fatal crashes.
High speeds reduce a driver’s ability to maintain control, react to traffic conditions, or avoid unexpected obstacles. When racing vehicles lose control, they can easily cross into oncoming lanes or strike uninvolved motorists.
These incidents often involve multiple vehicles and can result in devastating consequences, particularly for passengers and other road users.
