How Do Multi-Vehicle Crashes at Intersections Become Fatal?
Intersections are high-risk areas where traffic from multiple directions converges, increasing the chances of collisions. When several vehicles are involved, the force and complexity of the crash can escalate quickly, leading to serious or fatal injuries.
Factors such as failure to yield, speeding, distracted driving, or running traffic signals can contribute to these types of incidents. In busy urban areas like San Jose, heavy traffic volumes can further increase the likelihood of multi-vehicle pileups.
When crashes involve multiple impacts, occupants may be struck more than once, significantly raising injury severity. These incidents also require extensive emergency response and can lead to prolonged road closures while investigators piece together what happened.
