Why Rear-End Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks Can Be Dangerous
Rear-end crashes involving large trucks can create serious damage because of the difference in size and weight between commercial vehicles and passenger cars. A sudden impact can leave smaller vehicles with significant damage, even when the collision happens at highway speeds or during slowing traffic.
Investigators reviewing these crashes usually examine vehicle damage, roadway conditions, driver actions, and the position of each vehicle after impact. Highway shoulders and travel lanes can also create additional safety concerns when vehicles are disabled. Clearing the scene safely sometimes requires towing services and coordination to remove damaged vehicles and reduce hazards for other drivers.
