Why Pedestrian Crashes Near Intersections Can Happen Quickly
Pedestrian accidents near intersections and turning lanes can develop within seconds, especially in areas with heavy traffic or stopped vehicles. When drivers and pedestrians have limited visibility of one another, the risk of a collision may increase.
Center turn lanes can create additional hazards because vehicles may continue moving while nearby traffic is stopped. A pedestrian crossing between vehicles may not see an approaching car, and drivers may also have little time to react if someone suddenly enters the roadway.
After these crashes, investigators often examine traffic flow, sightlines, vehicle speeds, and roadway design. Witness statements and physical evidence from the scene may help clarify how the collision occurred and whether environmental or traffic conditions contributed to the incident.
