How U-Turn Maneuvers Can Lead to Intersection Crashes
Intersections along major highways such as U.S. 19 often allow drivers to perform U-turns in designated areas. These maneuvers require careful timing because drivers must cross or merge into active lanes of traffic.
Vehicles approaching from the opposite direction may be traveling at highway speeds. When a driver turns across those lanes without enough clearance, the risk of a head-on or angle collision increases.
Traffic signals, lane markings, and driver judgment all influence how safely U-turns are completed. In busy corridors, drivers must monitor approaching vehicles carefully and allow enough distance before entering or crossing opposing traffic lanes.
