Why ATV Rollovers Can Be So Dangerous
ATV and utility terrain vehicle rollovers can lead to severe injuries because passengers are often exposed during a crash. Uneven ground, loose gravel, steep trails, and sudden turns may increase the chance of a vehicle tipping over, especially on off-road paths. Larger utility vehicles can also become unstable if control is lost at higher speeds.
In rollover incidents, riders may suffer injuries from impact with the ground or from being pinned beneath the vehicle. Emergency responders often face added challenges reaching crash sites in wooded or remote recreation areas. Investigators commonly examine terrain conditions, vehicle speed, seating positions, and safety equipment use when reviewing off-road crashes involving multiple passengers.
