Five people in the Nissan were injured, including a 1-year-old girl with moderate injuries, a 4-year-old boy with serious injuries, an 8-year-old boy with moderate injuries, a 12-year-old girl with minor injuries, and a 49-year-old woman with moderate injuries. Three people in the Mustang were also injured: a 1-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and a 23-year-old woman, all with minor injuries.
All injured individuals were transported to area hospitals. Authorities confirmed that all drivers and occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Often Affect Children
Multi-vehicle crashes on highways can be especially dangerous for children due to the forces involved when cars collide in sequence. Even when seatbelts are used, impacts from rear-end collisions can lead to moderate or serious injuries.
Children may be more vulnerable to injury because their bodies are smaller and still developing. Proper car seats, booster seats, and seatbelt use help reduce the risk of injury, but even in sudden collisions, injuries can still occur.
Highway conditions, vehicle speed, and sudden stops all contribute to the severity of crashes. Emergency crews often prioritize medical attention for young passengers due to their higher risk for serious injury.
