Staten Island, NY (January 21, 2026) – A multi-vehicle accident involving an NYPD patrol car and an MTA bus left one officer injured on Tuesday evening in the Graniteville section of Staten Island.
The collision occurred around 6:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of Richmond Ave near Deppe Pl. Authorities say a black Nissan Maxima first struck the NYPD vehicle before continuing forward and crashing into the rear driver’s side of an MTA bus.
Emergency medical services responded promptly to the scene. The injured officer, who complained of back pain, was transported to a nearby hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. No other injuries have been confirmed at this time.
Photos from the scene revealed the Maxima sustained extensive damage, its passenger side partially sheared off, trunk crushed, and bumper torn away. The bus showed signs of impact along its rear section, but no major injuries were reported among passengers or the driver.
Law enforcement officials remained on-site to assess the scene and begin their investigation into the cause of the crash. Traffic along Richmond Ave was temporarily impacted as emergency crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles and document the incident.
We send our best wishes to the injured officer and all others affected, and we hope for a smooth and swift recovery.
