Stockton, CA (January 23, 2026) – A pedestrian accident involving a city employee left one man dead and another injured Thursday evening near downtown Stockton. The collision occurred around 7:20 p.m. on January 22 at the intersection of North El Dorado St and East Acacia St, according to officials.
Stockton Police officers were in the area when they came upon the aftermath of the crash. Two adult male pedestrians had been struck under unclear circumstances by a vehicle driven by a Stockton city employee.
Both victims were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Tragically, one of the men later died from his injuries. The second victim remains hospitalized, but his current condition has not been made public.
Authorities confirmed that the driver involved stayed at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. Preliminary reports indicate that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the collision.
Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi released a statement acknowledging that the driver was a city employee and that the city is aware of the situation. Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims or the driver.
The Stockton Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the accident, including any factors that may have led to the men being struck.
