The pedestrian was struck and thrown onto the roadway. The victim died at the scene.
Officials said the driver immediately called 911 and remained at the location following the crash. Investigators also confirmed that the driver was not impaired, and witnesses stated the driver had the green signal at the time.
The pedestrian’s identity has not yet been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
Why Pedestrian Crashes Often Occur at Busy Intersections
Busy intersections can present challenges for both drivers and pedestrians. Multiple traffic signals, turning vehicles, and changing light cycles require constant attention from everyone using the roadway.
Pedestrians crossing against a signal may encounter vehicles that have the legal right of way. Drivers moving through a green light may not expect someone to enter the roadway at that moment.
Visibility can also affect how quickly a driver recognizes a person in the road. At night, reduced lighting and glare from headlights can make it harder to see pedestrians from a distance.
Even when drivers try to brake or steer, the short reaction time at intersections can make it difficult to avoid a collision. Careful attention to signals and traffic flow can help reduce the risk of these incidents.
