Richmond, IL (July 6, 2026) – Two people were injured on Sunday evening, July 5, in a two-vehicle collision at Route 12 and Route 173 in downtown Richmond. The accident was reported around 7:35 p.m.
The crash involved a car and an SUV that had been towing a large camper. Both vehicles came to rest on Kenosha Street just west of Main Street, and the camper detached from the SUV, blocking the roadway.
Officials said one person in each vehicle was trapped. A male patient was removed and flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition. A female patient was also freed and taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry in stable condition.
The wreck also caused damage to a utility pole and a nearby business. Further details about the cause were not available on Monday morning. Authorities continue reviewing evidence from the crash site and speaking with witnesses.
