What Can Happen During a Rollover Accident?
Rollover crashes are often among the most serious traffic accidents because of the forces involved when a vehicle flips or lands on its side or roof. Occupants may suffer severe injuries even when seat belts and airbags are used.
These accidents can happen for several reasons, including sudden steering movements, speeding, uneven road surfaces, or a vehicle leaving the roadway. Larger vehicles and SUVs may also have a higher risk of rolling over due to their height and center of gravity.
In many rollover crashes, investigators later review vehicle damage, tire conditions, and roadway evidence to piece together how the incident unfolded. Passenger positions inside the vehicle and whether occupants were restrained can also help provide additional context about the severity of the crash.
