What Can Lead to Multi-Vehicle Rollovers on Interstate Highways?
Multi-vehicle rollovers can happen when several vehicles become involved in a chain of sudden movements, especially on busy interstate highways. Quick lane changes, abrupt braking, limited following distance, and changing traffic speeds can all increase the likelihood of a vehicle losing stability.
Certain vehicles, including SUVs and pickup trucks, generally have a higher center of gravity than passenger cars, making them more prone to rolling over during sharp maneuvers or after striking another vehicle. Road surface conditions, weather, and traffic volume may also influence how these collisions develop. Following at a safe distance, remaining alert to traffic changes, and reducing speed during heavy congestion can help lower the risk of serious highway crashes.
