What Can Lead to Run-Off-Road Crashes in No-Passing Zones
Run-off-road crashes often happen when a driver tries to avoid a hazard or misjudges space on a two-lane road. In no-passing zones, visibility is usually limited due to curves, hills, or other conditions that make it unsafe to pass. Sudden steering to avoid oncoming traffic can cause a vehicle to leave the roadway.
Once a vehicle departs the road, fixed objects like trees can increase the severity of a crash. Speed, road design, and driver decisions all affect how these incidents unfold. Staying within marked lanes and following passing restrictions can help reduce the risk of this type of crash.
