According to initial reports, the semi-truck was making a right turn onto southbound Monterey Ave when it collided with the SUV. The impact caused the semi-truck to catch fire, though the flames were quickly extinguished by firefighters at the scene.

How Intersection Off-Ramp Crashes Involving Trucks Can Escalate Quickly
Crashes at highway off-ramps often involve vehicles making turns across active traffic lanes. This can create conflict points where timing and visibility are critical.
Semi-trucks require wider turning paths, and their size can increase the risk of striking vehicles already in the intersection or entering it. Even a single impact can cause significant damage due to the truck’s mass.
In some cases, collisions may also lead to secondary hazards such as fires or fluid leaks. Emergency responders typically focus on both injury care and preventing further roadway risks during cleanup.
