Aurora, CO (May 8, 2026) – At least six people were injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon on Interstate 70 in Aurora.
The collision was reported around 3:30 p.m. on May 7 in the westbound lanes of I-70 just west of N Airport Blvd beneath the N Peña Blvd bridge. Emergency units responded to the scene after reports of several vehicles involved in the crash.
According to preliminary information, two or possibly three vehicles were involved in the collision. Officials said four people suffered minor injuries while two others sustained moderate injuries. All six individuals were transported to hospitals for further evaluation and treatment.
At least one vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash. Multiple ambulances responded to assist the injured, and traffic cameras showed a large emergency presence in the area.
The westbound lanes of I-70 were temporarily closed while crews worked the scene. By approximately 4:15 p.m., the center lane had reopened, though traffic remained slow through the area.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care and fully recover.
Why Multi-Vehicle Interstate Crashes Often Cause Major Delays
Crashes involving multiple vehicles on interstate highways can quickly disrupt traffic due to high travel speeds and limited space for emergency response. Even a single blocked lane can create backups that extend for miles during busy travel periods.
Investigators often review vehicle spacing, lane changes, and braking patterns to determine how chain-reaction crashes developed. Traffic congestion and sudden slowdowns are also commonly examined after collisions on major highways.
When injuries are reported, crews may temporarily close multiple lanes to allow safe access for medical responders and tow operators. Vehicle damage, debris fields, and roadway evidence are later used to reconstruct the sequence of impacts.
