Sarasota, FL (May 28, 2026) – Three people were injured Wednesday afternoon, May 27, after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Sarasota.
The accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 75, just past Fruitville Road. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene and confirmed that three vehicles were involved.
Traffic cameras showed emergency vehicles at the site, with backups stretching for several miles after the wreck. Southbound lanes were closed while crews worked in the area.
All lanes reopened by about 4:30 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains under review as investigators continue gathering information. We hope all three people injured receive the care and support needed during recovery.
Why Multi-Vehicle Interstate Crashes Can Cause Major Delays
Multi-vehicle interstate crashes can create serious traffic problems because damaged vehicles may block several lanes at once. Drivers approaching the area may have little time to slow down, especially when traffic is moving at highway speeds.
Emergency crews may need to close lanes to treat injured people, remove vehicles, and clear debris. Medical teams often check for head, neck, back, chest, and limb injuries after highway collisions. Investigators may review speed, lane position, traffic flow, road conditions, vehicle damage, and witness statements to determine how the vehicles came together.
