Livingston County, MO (July 16, 2026) – Three people were seriously hurt in a three-vehicle crash on Tuesday, July 14, on US-65 at LIV-224, about four miles north of Chillicothe.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling north on US-65 when the 28-year-old driver attempted to turn left onto LIV-224 and entered the path of a southbound 2006 Peterbilt 386. The truck struck the Tahoe, which then spun and hit a northbound 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan before all three vehicles left the roadway.

The Tahoe driver, a 28-year-old woman from Chillicothe, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Hedrick Medical Center before being airlifted to Truman Medical Center. The 77-year-old driver of the Dodge Grand Caravan also received serious injuries and was taken to Hedrick Medical Center. A 5-year-old girl riding in the Tahoe sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hedrick Medical Center. No additional information about those involved has been released.

The cause of the wreck continues to be examined as investigators complete their review.

Our thoughts are with everyone injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Why Left-Turn Crashes on Highways May Be Dangerous?

Crashes involving left turns on highways happen when a driver must judge the speed and distance of approaching traffic before crossing opposing lanes. A small miscalculation can leave little time for other drivers to slow down or avoid contact, especially on roads with higher speed limits.

When several vehicles become involved, investigators usually examine the positions of the vehicles, roadway markings, physical evidence, and any witness statements to determine how the sequence unfolded. Vehicle damage and the vehicles’ final resting places can also provide important clues.

Injury severity in these crashes can vary widely depending on travel speeds, the angle of contact, and whether occupants were properly restrained. Safety equipment, such as seat belts, can help reduce the risk of more severe injury, even during high-impact collisions.
