Florence, AL (May 23, 2026) – Multiple people were injured on Thursday afternoon following a three-vehicle collision on O’Neal Bridge in Florence.
Emergency units responded to the scene around 5:05 p.m. on May 21 after reports of a crash involving three vehicles on the bridge. Initial radio traffic indicated that at least one adult woman reported leg pain following the collision, with additional injuries reported among those involved.
Authorities said police, fire crews, and emergency medical personnel assisted at the scene as traffic backed up across the bridge. Drivers experienced significant delays while the roadway remained partially impacted during the response.
The accident is still under investigation by the authorities. We are thinking of those injured and hope they recover fully.
Why Bridge Crashes Often Cause Significant Traffic Disruptions
Crashes on bridges frequently lead to major delays because space is limited and there are often few alternative routes nearby. When multiple vehicles are involved, lanes may be blocked for extended periods while emergency units work to assist injured people and clear the roadway.
Investigators typically examine vehicle spacing, travel speed, and roadway conditions to understand how the collision unfolded in a confined area. Construction zones or narrowed lanes can also contribute to reduced reaction time for drivers.
Traffic backups are common even after lanes begin reopening, as vehicles must be cleared safely and debris removed. These incidents often require careful coordination to restore normal traffic flow while preserving evidence for the investigation.
