Town of Theresa, NY (May 9, 2026) – A crash involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer shut down part of State Route 411 in the Town of Theresa on Friday afternoon.
According to reports, the collision happened near the intersection of State Route 37 and State Route 411 shortly after 3 p.m. Emergency units responded to the area and found heavy damage involving both vehicles.
Officials at the scene said the pickup truck driver was airlifted from the crash site by helicopter. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Investigators said the tractor-trailer exited the highway eastbound while the pickup truck exited westbound following the collision. A diesel fuel spill was also reported at the scene, leading environmental crews to assist with cleanup efforts.
The incident remains under review by authorities. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Fuel Spills Can Complicate Truck Accidents
Crashes involving tractor-trailers can sometimes lead to fuel spills, especially when fuel tanks or vehicle components are damaged during impact. Diesel spills may create slippery roadway conditions and may require specialized cleanup before traffic is allowed to return through the area.
Large commercial vehicles also take longer to remove after a collision because of their size and weight. Emergency crews often need heavy equipment to safely clear damaged trucks and debris from the roadway.
Air medical transport may be used after serious crashes when injured people need faster access to trauma care. Helicopters are commonly requested in rural areas or when traffic delays could slow ground transportation to a hospital. Road closures may remain in place while crews handle cleanup operations and investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
