Why Head-On Crashes Can Cause Traumatic Injuries
Head-on crashes can be severe because two vehicles often meet with strong forward force. People inside may be pushed into seat belts, airbags, dashboards, doors, or steering wheels. This can cause head, chest, spine, limb, and internal injuries.
When one patient is flown from the scene, emergency crews may be concerned about the seriousness of the trauma or the need for faster access to advanced care. Investigators may review lane position, vehicle damage, road markings, speed, visibility, and witness statements to understand how the vehicles came together. Road closures also give crews space to treat patients, clear debris, and safely document the crash scene.
