Why Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crashes Raise Safety Concerns
Hit-and-run crashes involving cyclists can be especially concerning because riders have very little physical protection compared to people inside vehicles. Even at lower speeds, a bicycle collision can result in injuries to the head, arms, or legs.
Intersections are common locations for bicycle-related crashes due to turning vehicles, crossing traffic, and limited visibility. Drivers may not always anticipate cyclists entering or crossing the roadway, especially in residential areas.
When a driver leaves the area after a crash, it can slow the process of understanding what happened and delay accountability. Investigators often rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, and vehicle descriptions to identify the vehicle involved.
