What Factors Can Contribute to Serious Single-Vehicle Crashes?
Roadway conditions and driver awareness can influence how a single-vehicle crash develops. When a vehicle leaves the roadway, it may strike fixed objects or come to rest in areas not designed for travel, increasing the chance of severe damage.
Speed and visibility can also affect outcomes. Higher speeds may reduce the time available to respond to sudden hazards, while limited visibility can make it harder to maintain control. Conditions near commercial areas or driveways may add unexpected movements or distractions.
In many cases, the vehicle’s position after leaving the road can complicate rescue efforts. Occupants may become trapped, requiring careful removal before medical care can continue.
