Why Pedestrian Crashes Often Occur on Residential Streets
Pedestrian accidents can occur even on quieter residential streets where traffic volumes are lower. Drivers and pedestrians may sometimes feel more relaxed in these areas, which can reduce attention to surroundings.
Intersections in neighborhoods can present challenges when vehicles are turning. Drivers must check for traffic, parked vehicles, and pedestrians who may be crossing the street.
Pickup trucks and other larger vehicles may also create blind spots that make it harder to see people near the front or sides of the vehicle. These blind areas can become more significant during turning movements.
Street lighting, parked cars, and landscaping can also affect visibility along residential roads. Clear sightlines and careful driving can help reduce the risk of collisions involving pedestrians.
