How Overcorrection Can Lead to Interstate Crashes
Overcorrection can happen when a driver quickly turns the wheel after drifting from a lane. The sudden movement may cause the vehicle to strike another car, hit a barrier, or leave the roadway. At interstate speeds, there is often little time to regain control.
Barrier walls and narrow roadway areas can make these crashes more serious. A vehicle may bounce back into traffic or be pushed into a nearby ditch, canal, or shoulder. Even minor injuries may need hospital care after a hard impact.
Hit-and-run crashes can also leave responders with limited information at first. Vehicle damage, lane position, and witness statements can help show how the crash happened. Medical checks help confirm the injured person’s condition after the scene clears.
