Wishek, ND (January 9, 2026) – A tragic workplace accident claimed the life of a local shop manager on Wednesday afternoon in the town of Wishek, located in south-central North Dakota.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. at Dakota Frontier Coop, where 52-year-old Michael Hulm was performing maintenance work on a truck inside the shop. According to Wishek Police Chief Andrew Tunheim, Hulm was working on the truck’s braking system when the vehicle unexpectedly rolled off a lift and crushed him.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, but despite their efforts, Hulm was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Officials have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of the accident, and an investigation is underway to determine how the lift failure occurred.
