Why Crossing Guard Crashes Raise Serious Safety Concerns
Crossing guards are typically stationed at intersections during busy traffic periods to help pedestrians, especially children, cross safely. Crashes involving crossing guards often highlight traffic flow, driver awareness, and visibility at intersections.
Afternoon traffic near schools and residential areas can create challenging conditions for both drivers and pedestrians. Vehicles approaching intersections may have limited time to stop if drivers are distracted or traveling too fast for the conditions.
Investigations into these incidents often review crosswalk placement, traffic controls, and witness accounts to determine how the collision occurred. Safety measures at pedestrian crossings may also be reassessed after serious crashes involving children or school staff.
