Santa Rosa, CA (June 3, 2026) – One person died following a multi-vehicle traffic accident on northbound US101 near the SR12 connector in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, June 2.
According to dispatch records, the fatal wreck was reported around 7:55 a.m. on northbound US101 just south of the SR12 connection. Initial reports indicated that four vehicles were involved, including a work truck, a big rig, and several passenger vehicles. The vehicles blocked multiple lanes, causing traffic to back up through the corridor.
As crews worked on the roadway, lane closures expanded, and all northbound lanes of US101 were eventually shut down. Traffic was diverted onto SR12 while emergency units remained at the site. Records show that evidence towing was requested for multiple vehicles, including a Chevrolet Silverado work truck with front-end damage.
The identity of the person who died has not yet been released. Additional details about how the collision occurred were not immediately available.
Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash. Our hearts go out to the family and friends mourning this loss.
Why Multi-Vehicle Highway Crashes Can Be Especially Serious
Multi-vehicle highway crashes may create complex situations because several drivers, vehicles, and traffic movements may be involved at the same time. On busy freeways, a single sudden slowdown or lane obstruction can quickly affect surrounding traffic, increasing the likelihood of additional impacts.
These types of collisions can also make emergency operations more challenging. Multiple damaged vehicles may block travel lanes, leading to significant backups and extended roadway closures. Investigators typically review vehicle positions, roadway conditions, witness statements, and physical evidence to better understand the sequence of events.
Commercial vehicles can add another layer of complexity due to their size and stopping distance. When large trucks are involved alongside passenger vehicles, roadway clearance and evidence collection may take longer. As a result, freeway disruptions following major multi-vehicle crashes can last for several hours while the roadway is made safe for travel again.
