Midland, TX (July 9, 2026) – A man was seriously hurt after being run over by a vehicle during a reported dispute on Tuesday, July 7, near the 10000 block of W Highway 80 in Midland.
According to court documents, emergency units were notified after receiving reports that a woman had run over her boyfriend with a car before driving him toward a hospital. A deputy later located a black Nissan in an H-E-B parking lot off Midkiff Road, where the man was found in the back seat with blood coming from his mouth and ear. He also told deputies he could not feel his legs.
The man said he and the driver had been arguing before he got out of the vehicle. He told investigators the driver then reversed and drove over him. The driver, identified as Emani Makamae Calhoun, initially said the man had been struck alongside the vehicle before later admitting he had been behind it when she backed up.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the man’s workplace, which reportedly showed the car reversing, knocking him to the ground, and then rolling over both of his legs. Court records state Calhoun admitted several times that she struck him, but claimed it was not intentional.
Calhoun was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with a motor vehicle listed as the deadly weapon. She was booked into the Midland County Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation as additional details are gathered.

How Motor Vehicles Can Lead to Serious Pedestrian Injuries
Pedestrians have little protection when a moving vehicle strikes them, making these cases especially likely to result in severe harm. Injuries may include broken bones, head trauma, spinal damage, or internal bleeding, depending on the vehicle’s speed and how the person is struck. Medical evaluations often continue after the first examination because some injuries are not immediately apparent.
Evidence such as surveillance video, witness statements, vehicle damage, and physical markings on the roadway can help establish what occurred. Investigators may also review the driver’s actions before and after the encounter, including vehicle movements and statements from everyone involved. Gathering this information helps build a clearer picture of how the collision unfolded and provides a more complete account of the circumstances surrounding it.
