Sacramento, CA (January 7, 2026) – A tragic incident in South Sacramento claimed the life of a pedestrian on Tuesday evening after a vehicle struck the individual at a busy intersection.
The Sacramento Police Department responded to the crash around 7:45 p.m. on January 6 at the intersection of 49th St and Fruitridge Rd. Emergency crews from Sacramento Fire also arrived shortly after to provide immediate care. The man, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Initial details indicate the man was struck under unclear circumstances. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Neither the driver nor the pedestrian has been publicly identified at this time.
Investigators are working to determine the events leading up to the collision. No arrests have been made, and it is not yet known whether impairment or distraction played a role.
